24 Hours
Group Exhibition
September 11 – November 16, 2025 The inaugural exhibition at 8×7 is the show 24 Hours. 24 Hours is a collection of clocks by twenty-four international design studios. In July 2024, the participating designers were sent a simple brief: create a wall-mounted clock that could fit within a 50 × 50 × 50 cm box. The participating designers each occupy a different point on the creative map. Their approaches may be research-based, formalistic, hands-on, pragmatic, or, more often, somewhere in between. While the clocks all measure the same thing, each uses its own material language to create a universe where time passes differently.
A clock is a device that introduces material qualities to an immaterial concept. Time has no thingness until we make a tool to measure it—it can only be quantified by dividing it into arbitrary units and displaying them on this device. While a clock is a tool for measurement, it also takes on qualities that seemingly similar devices do not. Unlike rulers, scales, and thermometers, a clock is simultaneously a practical tool, a decoration, an index of craft, and a status symbol. It’s unique that a Rolex, a grandfather clock, and Big Ben can all belong to the same typology. The myriad interpretations of the clock create an opportunity to compare the methodologies of design studios with vastly different practices.
24 Hours was initially exhibited at RIVIERA, a cultural project in Milan, during design week in April 2025. Curated, published, and organized by Jamie Wolfond Studio, with communication and curatorial support from Simple Flair. The publication features the 24 original clocks that were shown in Milan and can purchased online at: 24-hours.pub
